CNCC rodeo coach takes a turn at Rock ‘n’ Bull for scholarship program

RBC | Rodeo announcer Bob Edmonds said the sun had set on Jed Moore’s professional rodeo career New Year’s eve, 2010 but as Moore watched it set Friday in Rangely, Colorado during the eighth annual Rock ‘n’ Bulls event at Columbine Park, he accepted a challenge, which could have prevented him from seeing the sun rise again, all to benefit his rodeo team and entertain a packed arena.
Moore is the head coach of the CNCC rodeo team, a position he has held since retiring from a 15-year rodeo career in 2010. Moore has fielded a competitive intercollegiate rodeo team for seven years and the annual Rock n’ Bulls event is a fundraiser and opportunity for him to showcase the grit of some of his cowboys.
“It was a great night for the kids and the community of Rangely and the Rock n’ Bull fans really stepped up this year to help support this event,” Moore wrote in a text. “Being able to take it a step further with the challenge was a lot of fun.”
Former Meeker High School graduate and current bull fighter Tyler Williams challenged Moore to ride a bull Friday but not just any bull, it was the 2015 RRCA Bucking Bull of the Year—952 Cross the Line. Moore quickly accepted the challenge, if $500 could be raised to benefit his rodeo scholarship program.
“Having the opportunity to get on a bull of that caliber was really exciting,” Moore wrote.
Moore’s rodeo team took their hats off for fans to fill with cash and before the next bull was out of the chute, more than $1,200 was raised, while Moore was in a corner of the arena trading boots with Ethan Cook, one of his rodeo team members and fellow bull rider.
Other team members helped Moore in the chute and once it was opened, 952 Cross the Line turned towards the crowd and exploded straight up into the air and the dust flew.
“Having been removed from the game for a while, my countermoves weren’t as sharp as they needed to be to ride a bull like that but knowing we were able to raise that kind of money to support our rodeo athletes, even though I didn’t ride him for eight seconds, it was a win for CNCC rodeo.”
