RANGELY | This past weekend CNCC rodeo athletes traveled to Salina, Utah for the Snow College Rodeo. The Spartans were led this week by sophomore Johnny Pavkov who placed third overall in the steer wrestling. Pavkov is currently placing third in the region and ranked No. 8 in the nation.
Several CNCC athletes competed well this weekend though were just shy of the top 10 to qualify them for the championship round. Taylor Hunt placed 11th in the breakaway roping.
Team ropers Taylor Duzik and Teague Crane as well as JD Slagowski and Johnny Pavkov both roped their steers in 8 seconds flat but both teams incurred 10 second penalties, pushing them just outside of the top 10.
JD Slagowski, competing in the tie-down roping, also placed 11th in the first round with a time of 16.4 seconds.
The Spartans are headed to Ogden, Utah this weekend for the Weber State University rodeo. CNCC’s home rodeo, the fourth annual Spartan Showdown, is fast approaching: March 31-April 1.
