CNCC rodeo teams in mix for title

RANGELY I The dust has settled on the fall season for CNCC Rodeo and the hard work of the largest team to date has been demonstrated. The CNCC cowboys and cowgirls have just returned from Logan, Utah, after competing in the Utah State University Rodeo.

The CNCC Rodeo women’s team stole the show in Logan, Utah, at the Utah State University Rodeo.
Led by sophomore nursing student Teasha Moody, the Lady Spartans placed second for the weekend making points in the goat tying, barrel racing and breakaway roping.
Moody dominated the competition in the goat tying by winning both rounds of competition and the average by more than 1.5 seconds. Moody tied the two fastest times of the weekend. As if her goat tying performance wasn’t enough, Moody ran well in the barrel racing placing in both rounds and fifth overall.
Her combined efforts also won her the all-around title for the weekend.
Freshman all-around cowgirl Anna Bahe roped the fastest time of the weekend in the long round of breakaway roping with a 2.5 second run.  Freshman Teague Crane also placed in the long round of breakaway with a 3.4 second run, good enough for fourth place points.
The men’s team, coming off of an outstanding weekend in Pocatello, Idaho, last week, struggled slightly, according to CNCC Rodeo coach Jed Moore.
Despite their difficulties, a handful of CNCC men contributed to the men’s team totals.
Sophomore Colton Onyett placed second in the bareback riding, Brody Adams with CNCC Alumni partner Clay Crozier won the first round in the team roping and finished six overall.
Nick Chew put points on the board in the saddle bronc riding winning third for the weekend.
Freshman Brendan Beck placed fifth for the weekend in the bareback riding, putting himself on the board for the first time this year.
According to coach Moore, CNCC Rodeo will head into the winter break in a great position to contend for regional titles and multiple CNFR qualifications. The men’s team currently sits second in the region, less than 150 points behind regional leader CSI.
The women are currently in a logjam where only 200 points separates second through sixth place teams in the region.  Moore said it’s going to be a battle through the final six rodeos of the season.
CNCC Rodeo will start back up in the first weekend of March, running for six weeks straight until the final regional rodeo in April.
