CNCC sophomore is Miss Colorado Teen

Megalong is the daughter of Maria and Felix Magalong Jr. of Security.
At CNCC she is vice president of Student Government (Spring 2013), on the President’s List in academics (Fall 2012), and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. She is also a volunteer at Giant Steps Daycare Center in Rangely.
Magalong will represent Colorado at the 2013 National Scholarship Pageant, which will be held in California on Aug. 13-18. She will be competing for the title of Miss Teen U.S. National and will join all of the other states’ queen representatives/national delegates from across the U.S. in Hollywood.
In 2012, Alyssa Mae graduated with honors from Mesa Ridge High School. She received numerous awards/recognitions in Student Councils/leadership, academics, sports and music.
Her platform is “Support for Cancer Patients.” Last year, she walked/ran 107 laps in 12 hours at Relay for Life in Fountain. She also played collegiate volleyball in a fund-raising event for breast cancer awareness.
Her collegiate volleyball team at CNCC wears pink T-shirts and ribbons at games during cancer awareness month. Recently, she donated 19 inches of her hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which is partnered with the American Cancer Society. It was also a moving and learning experience when she visited the world renowned St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee last year as Colorado’s Homecoming Queen/Liberty Bowl Queen from Colorado.
“I am passionate for this cause in honor of my relatives, friends, teachers and all the individuals who have been diagnosed, afflicted with, survived or passed away because of cancer,” she said. “I wanted to contribute my hair and help girls/women regain their self-confidence and personal image if they were lost during their fight against cancer.
“I encourage everyone to find a way to support this cause because I believe in the American Cancer Society — Relay for Life’s motto “Cancer never sleeps,” and I believe we should do everything we can to combat this disease through financial support or giving some of our time for this cause. I am in support and part of the team called “Resilient Warriors.’”
She said that as Miss Colorado Teen, “I will continue to be a positive role model to children and teens. I am a relatable young woman who seeks to touch lives one person at a time. I have gained positive qualities through the guidance of my family, church, and school, and I am very appreciative of all the blessings that have been given to me.”
