MEEKER I Cross country runners representing Meeker High School showed improvement after competing in Basalt last Saturday.
“We had some great improvements and a lot of the kids had real close finishes,” head coach Kris Casey said of her team’s second performance of the season. “I’m very proud of all the kids, they ran hard.”
All three girls improved their times in the second race of the season, as did three of the four boys on the team.
Meeker senior Erica Roybal led the girls again, taking time off in Basalt, as did freshmen Savannah Johnson and Perye Walter. Walter ran the 3.1-mile course more than six minutes faster than the week before. Roybal finished 25th out of 65 runners and Johnson was 28th.
Rangely freshman William Scoggins was the first boy on the Cowboy team to cross the finish line again, finishing 27th out of 73 runners. Sophomore Ean Barrow and freshmen Lathrop Hughes and Alex Smith all took time off in their second race.
“We have a few that are starting to get sore legs, so I’ll have a few training on bikes and in the pool this week,” Casey said.
The Meeker team will compete in Grand Junction on Friday.
