Coal Ridge and Glenwood Invites

The RHS track team had its first overnight trip last weekend as they competed in both the Coal Ridge and Glenwood Springs Invitational meets.
For the runners, weekend highlights included the Nielsen twins both earning personal records in the 2-mile run. Dale Neilsen had a time of 5:24.98 and Tanner had a time of 5:32.22.
Victoria Phelan also ran her best time of the year in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.34. Cole Barlow made it to the finals in the 100-meter dash at the Glenwood meet and placed sixth overall with a time of 12.05.
Colton Coombs also had a great race. He was right on Cole’s tail with a time of 12.37 seconds, his personal record (PR) of the season as well. Connor Phelan is is currently .4 seconds away from breaking the RHS freshman boys’ 400-meter dash record with a time of 57.20 seconds.
Finally, William Scoggins got his his season PR in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:13.26, which earned him 17th place out of 49 runners.
Several Panther jumpers also had success last weekend as they continued to jump higher and farther as the season progresses. Freshman Andrew Morton jumped his highest mark of the season at 5 feet, 10 inches for a sixth place finish at Coal Ridge and a jump of 5-8 which earned a fourth place finish at the Glenwood invitational.
Victoria Phelan also jumped well last weekend, making the finals in long jump at Coal Ridge with a 14-2 jump. She also did well in the triple jump in Glenwood on Saturday with a PR jump on the season of 29-9 1/4.
The Panthers also had several dual sport athletes join the track team. They are a great addition to the team both as competitors and general support for the team. The athletes, who also play soccer, include Hailee Russell, Mckale Pennell, Tori Slagle, Tessa Slagle, and Rosalise Coombs.
The Rangely Panther throwers did an excellent job at the Glenwood meet. There were excellent throws made by all throwers. Freshman Hailee Russell did a great job for her first meet of the season. Marie Morton excelled, making two PRs with a 5-7 gain in the discus and almost a 2-foot gain in shot put. Morton placed first in the discus adding 10 team points to the meet total.
Congratulations to all of the runners, throwers and jumpers so far.
“With continuous hard work and dedication, I believe we will be taking quite a few athletes with us to state this year!” head coach Stephanie Kahler said. “Keep it up, Panthers.”
