Cochran to receive award

Collin Cochran will receive his Eagle Scout award June 25 at 2 p.m. at Richards Hall.

MEEKER I Collin Michael Cochran will be presented with scouting’s highest honor, the Eagle Scout award, at a Court of Honor on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. at Richards Hall, St. James Episcopal Church, 368 Fourth St. A reception will follow. Cochran is a member of Boy Scout Troop 223 and Venturing Crew 91. He also earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light award. Cochran is the son of Robert and Kami Cochran of Meeker. Please join them in celebrating this special occasion.
Less than 5 percent of all Scouts earn the Eagle Scout award. More than two million Scouts have earned the award since 1910; among them are distinguished leaders such as congressmen, a U.S. President, astronauts, military generals and admirals, college presidents and professors, corporate executives, physicians, attorneys and many others.
A fund raiser to help defray expenses for Cochran’s participation in the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden in July will be held on Friday, June 24 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the fairgrounds exhibit hall. Fun activities will include dances and karaoke. Admission is $5. Please attend and help Cochran enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience of attending the World Scout Jamboree. If you would like to donate money, or have a job for Cochran to do, please contact Kami Cochran at (970)379-3887
Collin is one of only 36 young men and women from the 12-state Western Region of the Boy Scouts of America who will join the contingent in Sweden as a member of the Venturing crew. Collin is the only Venturer from the Western Colorado Council, BSA, to be selected for this great adventure.
The World Jamboree is held every four years and assembles more than 35,000 young men and women from Scouting Associations in 120 countries. Jamboree Scouts will participate in joint activities such as spectacular opening and closing arena shows, friendship campfires, exchange dinners and participation in international and friendship exchange events such as the Global Development Village, challenging physical activities such as obstacle courses, rock climbing and rappelling, aquatic programs and much more.
Jamboree Scouts will participate in an offsite trip to surrounding communities to work on service projects for local schools, recreation centers and other venues. Jamboree Scouts often make friendships with Scouts from other nations that last for many years after the Jamboree is concluded. A favorite activity is to exchange uniforms with Scouts from other countries, as well as “swapping” of Scouting pins or other memorabilia of the Jamboree experience.
Cochran is an outstanding student at Meeker High School where he participates in varsity football and wrestling. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America and Future Business Leaders of America.
Cochran is a member of the Meeker High School Drama Club and International Thespian Troupe 1284. He played active roles in high school musicals including “Little Shop of Horrors” and the lead role of Danny in “Grease, the Musical.” He also played a leading role in “Annie, Jr.”
Cochran’s Eagle Scout service project involved painting the entire Meeker High School Starbuck football stadium in the school colors of black and gold.
Collin is the 19th Eagle Scout to receive his award in Meeker since the first Eagle was earned in 1948.
