MEEKER I Macy Collins has been showing her goats and lambs for the last several weeks. She had a great jackpot season, winning some cash, her first belt buckle and some other prizes. July 3 was her final jackpot before the county fair and state fair. She attended the first annual Firecracker Goat Jackpot in Grand Junction with her goats, Alvin, Simon, Theodore and Dave. She began the day with a first-place finish in showmanship with Dave, where she won some cash and an embroidered blanket. Theodore was first place in his class, and Simon and Alvin, who weighed the same, were first and second in their class. Macy won reserve champion market goat with Simon and received $100, another blanket and a hand-painted saw blade.
Next she showed in the Smackdown, which was a special show for goats purchased at this spring’s firecracker sale. She bought her goat from her grandpa, Forrest Nelson. Simon was the winner of the Smackdown and Macy won $500, another blanket, a plaque and another hand-painted plaque. After the open show, they had some fun classes including a costume contest. Macy dressed up as a Native-American girl and Dave was her horse. She won first place in this contest and won another $50, wrapping up a super showing season.
