Community encouraged to help create mural

RANGELY — Waving Hands Art Club would like like to invite community members to help create a colorful mural to replace the one on White Avenue in Rangely.
The mural is in a state of advanced disrepair, and it a magnet for vandalism and quickly approaching eyesore status.
The wall is approximately 240 feet long and under six feet high, perfect for all ages to add their own touch to this collaborative art project. Waving Hands hopes to create a bright and fresh painting featuring the traced outlines of local children. The Mural will feature elements that celebrate children and their important contribution to the wider community
Waving Hands will host a week long work session to repair the aesthetic beauty of the wall.
On Saturday, June 28, they will wash the old paint off and replace it with fresh white primer. This will provide a lasting ground for the new mural.
On Monday, June 30, the group has invited the students of Giant Step Preschool and other youngsters to trace themselves on the wall. These chalk lines will be incorporated into the final composition. For the rest of the week volunteers will work hard to cover the 1,400 square feet of space with flowers, butterflies, animals and the traced outlines of many waving children.
The Art Club has already painted five murals in Rangely and hopes to work in Meeker in the future. Waving Hands is confident that, with the help of the Rio Blanco community, its first outdoor mural will be a lasting success.
