MEEKER I Sewer construction at the intersection of Fifth and Garfield could affect traffic to the school district’s administration building, if work is still going on when classes start next week.
However, the Meeker Sanitation District expects the intersection should be open by the time classes start Monday.
If not, the school district asks that parents dropping off and picking up kindergarten and preschool students to “come in from Sixth, make a U-turn, then pull in front of the building, parking as far west toward Sixth as possible, to allow space for people to make that U-turn,” said Peggy Griffin of the Meeker School District.
“It will be congested (if the intersection is blocked off),” Griffin said. “It’s going to going some create traffic issues on those first days, unless they get it cleaned up.”
Kindergarten classes start Monday, along with first through 12th grades. Preschool classes will start Wednesday.
There’s also a walking lane on the north side of the street that starts at Fifth and Garfield, where “parents and drivers will need to watch out for little people,” Griffin said.
Bus routes will not be affected.
