Meeker, Colorado, is the county seat of Rio Blanco County, situated in the northwestern part of the state. The population is about 2,400 people within the city limits. The elevation is 6,249 feet. The Flat Tops Wilderness Area and White River National Forest are only 30 miles away. Yes, we still have sheep and cattle drives that go through town!
Meeker Colorado is a short drive from Craig, Rifle, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, US Hwy 40 and Interstate 70. It also has a modern general aviation airport with full-service fixed base operations and charter service.
Climate is typical of the western high country. Summer daytime high temperatures range from 70 to the mid-90’s, and evening lows from the mid-40’s to the high 50’s. Winter brings snow and cold temperatures, but the days tend to be sunny and humidity is always low. The town offers a gateway to the popular White River National Forest and the Flat Tops Wilderness Area.
For the person thinking of relocating in this area, a variety of affordable housing is available. The excellent education system offers preschool through high school. A two-year accredited college, Colorado Northwestern Community College, is located in the nearby town of Rangely. Meeker sponsors a full schedule of classes in their outreach program.
Pioneers Medical Center has been serving the community for more than 50 years. It offers a fully staffed clinic, 24-hour emergency room care, X-ray, lab, CT scan and nursing home facilities.
Seventeen established churches of various denominations hold regular services. A number of local clubs and organizations welcome new members.
Recreation opportunities include a challenging nine-hole golf course that lies one mile south of town overlooking the beautiful White River Valley. The course is open about April 1 to October 31 and offers a complete selection of golfing amenities including pro shop, clubhouse, restaurant and bar, driving range and a unique layout to test the skills of golfers of any level.
Outdoor recreation is virtually unlimited. Biking, boating, camping, cross-country skiing, fishing, four-wheel driving, golf, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, photography, scenic tours, snowmobiling, stargazing, wildlife viewing and more are all available in the Meeker area.
