RBC I Most students in Rangely and Meeker will return to their classrooms on Monday, filling the streets and sidewalks in both towns with young students walking or bicycling, older students driving to school, school buses busy delivering children to the schools and parents dropping off their children.
In Meeker, Meeker Elementary School, Barone Middle School and Meeker High School will open their doors to the students on Monday morning.
In Rangely, the doors will open on Monday morning for students at Rangely Junior/Senior High, but classes at Parkview Elementary School will not start until Wednesday.
Meeker Schools Superintendent Chris Selle is in his first year as head of local schools, and he is optimistic of a good year ahead.
“We have great administrators in place, and they understand that the students come first in learning and growth,” he said.
“The beginning of school year is always exciting,” he said. It will be nice to have the kids back in the school buildings and learning, as that is why we are here.”
He said he sees his job as helping the schools, administrators, teachers and staff to reach the goal of doing the best possible job to help the students.
“I am looking forward to helping the kids learn in whatever way is possible; that is what we are here for and that is the ultimate goal I have for the next year,” he said. “It is something I am really looking forward to.”
Rangely Schools Superintendent Matt Scoggins is equally enthusiastic for the beginning of classes this year.
Scoggins, entering his third year as superintendent, said he is looking to a continued challenge to make the Rangely schools the best they can be.
Scoggins said he sees no major changes this year but that he hopes to see “lots of growth within the students and lots of improvement.”
“The past two years have been fun, if not challenging,” he said. “I work with some great people who also want to improve the education of the students.
“We’ve already seen some great kids off to college or trade schools,” Scoggins said. “I look forward to seeing all the students progress even farther.”
