MEEKER | The Cowboy cross country team traveled for their homecoming competition to the Rifle Cross Country Invitational. “It was a nice afternoon for racing,” commented head coach Marty Casey. “The course was in great shape, and was fast, as usual.’’
Nine Cowboys competed and nine runners posted new personal records. Shane Kobald, once again the fastest boy, came in at 19 minutes 20 seconds. Gabe Richardson came in seven places behind him in 68th place with a time of 19:29.33, and for the first time this year, two Cowboys came in under twenty. The boys came to compete, Ashdon Seibert and Zach Harman had their best times this season, and Casey commented that, “Owen Hanneman and Gage Richardson both had great races and Eddie Drussell dropped about a minute.”
Brighton Bair, Kate Lockwood and Rylee Butler were each at least a minute faster than their previous best. Bair once again was top lady Cowboy, crossing the finish line at 39th place, with a time of 22:16.12. There were 170 girls that took to the race course and Bair finished in the top 25%.
The team now turns its sights to the regional meet. “The course at Delta, for the Regional meet, should be faster yet, then Rifle,” commented Casey. Meeker will be racing Friday at Confluence Park, with the girls running at 2:30 p.m., and the boys at 3:50 p.m.
