MEEKER — The Meeker
High School Cowboy track
teams headed to Rifle last
Friday to take part in the Rifle
Invitational.
The afternoon was nice but
breezy, which hindered the athletes
trying to pre-qualify for
the state meet.
Field events kicked off at
1:30 p.m. with Johnny Wix the
first to score points for the
Cowboys in the shot put. He
scratched on his best effort but
still managed a heave of 43-1 to
take fourth place in a field of
more than 40 guys.
Janae Kindall and Meg
Nieslanik both jumped more
than 30 feet in the triple jump
for fourth and fifth place.
Nieslanik and Sydney Cook
cleared 4-6 in the high jump to
tie for eighth place.
The men’s discus event followed
the women’s and Johnny
Wix threw to a season PR of 133-
11 to place second. The
women’s medley team of Marki
Cook, Timbre Shriver, Janae
Kindall and Kelsey Rundberg
started the running events placing
seventh behind all 4A
schools.
The men’s 4×800-meter relay
team of Terrance Casias, Sam
Love, Seth Boesch and Brock
Campbell followed that performance
cutting 30 seconds off
their season record placing fifth.
Marki Cook sprinted into
the wind and placed third in a
very tight 100-meter finish.
There were more than 50 competitors
in the field.
Timbre Shriver and Tyler
Howey ran well in the 100- and
110-meter hurdles but both finished
just out of the points. In
the 4×200 relay Gabie Goettel,
Kelsey Rundberg, Sydney Cook
and Kelsey Kendall placed
eighth. Cameron Stranathan
and Carlin Daggett both ran to
personal records in the 1,600-
meter finishing 19th and 20th.
Marki Cook, Kelsey
Rundberg, Janae Kindall and
Timbre Shriver finished fifth in
the 4×100-meter relay. Shriver
also finished 11th in her first
effort at the 300-meter low hurdles.
Brock Cambell and Tyler
Howey also ran strong 300 hurdle
races.
In the 800-meter run Kelsey
Kendall ran her best time of the
year and so did Sam Love finishing
10th out of 40 runners.
Marki Cook sped to a fifth
place finish in the 200 and teammate
Janae Kindall was close
behind. Running under the
lights at around 11 p.m.,
Terrence Casias, Sam Love,
Brock Cambell and Seth Boesch
ran close to a season best in the
4×400 meter relay to place
eighth.
The Cowboys traveled to
Rangely on Tuesday and will
compete Friday at the Clint
Wells Invitational Track Meet in
Craig.
