The Cowboy track team continues to improve, qualifying more members for the state meet and several marking personal records in their events.
Meeker competed in a meet in Coal Ridge last Friday and traveled to Glenwood Springs the following day.
Kathryn Doll had several personal bests last week, with one of them moving her to the front in the state’s 2A division. Doll had a personal best in the triple jump with 34 feet, 8 inches, putting her on top of the leader board. Doll has also qualified for the state meet in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and the long jump. Doll won the 200, triple and long jumps last weekend and is in the top five in the two dashes.
Meeker junior Toby Casias continues to lead the boys’ team, qualifying for the state meet in the 100 and 200 dashes and he ran on two relays last weekend, placing fourth with Kevin Ely, Jared Frantz and Sebatian Clarke in the 4×200 meter relay. Casias’ 4×100 relay with Frantz, Ryan Wix and Clarke also placed fourth.
“They worked really hard this weekend, having two full meets in two days,” Meeker track coach Kris Casey said of her team competing at Coal Ridge last Friday and Glenwood Springs last Saturday. “Having two meets in a row, allowed us to play with some of the relays and allow kids to do a variety of events.”
Aly Ridings, Brayden Bastian, Jordan Brown and Taylor Ahrens finished fourth in the 4×100 relay.
Casey said sprinters Sydney Boes, Taylor Ahrens and Mariah Jensen all had personal bests, as did Laura Fonseca in the 800 and Ohana Mataia in the shot put. Bailey Atwood’s shot put ranks her as the ninth best in 2A.
Frantz and JC Henderson had personal records in the 400 dash and Frantz currently has the eighth-best time in the same race.
Casey said Lathrop Hughes, Willis Begaye and Bailey Mantle all ran their best last weekend in the 800.
Wix’s throws have placed him in the top 10 in the discus and shot put. Jake Boesch ran the 3200 for the first time last weekend and recorded the 13th best time in 2A.
The boys finished ninth out of 16 teams and the girls placed 11th out of 18 in Coal Ridge.
