MEEKER I “It was the first tournament Rod was able to be competitive in,” Irvin Griffin said of his brother-in-law Rod Crawford, who won the second flight of the Old Farts In Carts tournament last weekend at the Meeker Golf Course.
Crawford, a former Meeker resident, who has been fighting cancer the last two years, won a three-way playoff for the win. After two years of treatment, according to Griffin, Crawford is currently cancer-free.
Crawford, Griffin and Steve Webb of Rifle, all finished the regulation 18 holes tied at 79.
Webb was dropped from the playoff after the first hole, which Crawford and Griffin parred. Crawford then parred No. 2 to beat Griffin by one shot for first-place honors.
Griffin finished with the second-best gross score, Webb had the best net score and Meeker local Randy Hall had the second-best net score of 66, in the field of 13 golfers.
Mark Barlau of Glenwood Springs was the best golfer older than 50. Barlau shot a 73, five shots ahead of Jim Peliquin, also of Glenwood Springs.
Earl Cherry of Rifle had the best net score of 63, two strokes better than Ash Durrett of Glenwood Springs.
