The addition of a new rig to the Meeker Volunteer Fire and Rescue fleet increases the department’s readiness for wildfires in hard-to-reach locations. According to Fire Chief Luke Pelloni, the truck will offer additional protection for rural areas in the district.
“In our service area we have a lot of unimproved roads and driveways that are not accessible with our current water tender,” said fire chief Luke Pelloni via email.
The custom truck is a 4×4 International with 54-inch tires. It has a 2,000 gallon tank, a 500 gallon-per-minute pump, and a 2,100 gallon portable tank.
The department hopes to get the truck sometime next week.
