n Tom Burke of Piceance was a town visitor Wednesday.
n Miss Carrie Oldland spent the week at Windermere Lodge.
n Mr. Gordon, from Denver, is the new bookkeeper at the Bank of Meeker.
n P.W. Hockett, of the park, exchanged greetings with Meeker friends Saturday.
n Miss Katherine Wildhack is the guest of her young friend, Miss Margaret Bartlett, at Buford, this week.
n Granger Claude Wilson, with this clothes covered with hay seed and his whiskers full of cockle burrs, mingled with the town folks Saturday.
n C.P. Allen, president of the state highway commission, arrived in Meeker last Saturday afternoon on a tour of inspection of the route of the proposed transcontinental highway, through this part of Colorado.
n Prospective candidates in nearly all of the counties are announcing themselves for various offices. Mayor C. F. Brown is the only Democratic name we have heard mentioned for treasurer. For assessor the names of Fletcher Hay, George Aicher and J.W. Bainbrich are talked of. And, of course, Jim Gentry will be the renominated and reelected district attorney.

n Philip M. Sheridan will be graduated from Western State College at Gunnison Aug. 3. He will receive his BA in industrial arts. Philip is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sheridan.
n Rio Blanco County was represented by four 4-H members competing in the state wool judging contest held in Glenwood Springs July 23. Team members representing Rio Blanco County were Otto Shults, Connie Theos, Sally Wilber and Mary Ann Wilber. Bill Ball, county extension agent, coached the team.
n The Grand Junction Sentinel has accused the Colorado Game and Fish Department of irresponsiblity, neglect and mismanagement at its Little Hills Experiment Station west of Meeker in Rio Blanco County.
n Several young people from Meeker will be going to Gunnison next month to attend the annual Band Camp at Western State College. Those who will make the trip this year and are enrolled will be Marie Anderson, bassoon and sax; Vina Mae Clapper, flute; Dale Jens, bassoon; Lorna Jeanne Idol, clarinet; Teresa Lake, French horn; Roberta Ruth Long, oboe and Percussion; and Barton Dale Mobley, saxophone and baton. Dale Jens, head of the high school music department will be in charge of the local group.

n In its regularly scheduled July meeting last Thursday, the Meeker Re-1 school district board of education voted to offer a contract to Steve Balloga, currently an elementary education teacher in Canon City, to fill the position of principal of the elementary school here.
n Suzanne Janine Carstens and Rodney Ray Gerloff were united in marriage June 13, in a lawn wedding at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carstens, in Meeker. Mr. and Mrs. Delton Gerloff of Meeker are parents of the groom.
n Surrounded by friends and family Mr. and Mrs. Don Brown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a barbecue hosted by their children July 19, near the couple’s home on the White River, Meeker.
n Tom and Betty Morlan have been enjoying a visit from daughter Debbi Clairmont and family from Oklahoma.
n Brandon Keith Simmons, son of Doug and Trula Simmons, celebrated his first birthday with an outdoor party at his home.
n Ruby Thompson Bell from Rangely and Vince Charles Vandiver from Meeker will be two of the 42 Colorado delegates traveling to Japan this summer. Winners at the Northwest Colorado Livestock Exposition held in Rifle last week were Mike Anderson, Krista Algien and Lisa Bivens.
n Mr. and Mrs. Alan Oldland came in from Denver to visit daughter Janice and other family and friends.

n Rangely’s trying to be a big town and we aren’t. Other towns our size haven’t got curbs and gutters and they’re 50-100 years old.
n New residents of Rangely are Paul H. Lintner, Harry B. McCluskey, John Jackson, Henry Cullins, Blaine Hanson, Kendall Dickinson and Gerald Boodry.
n The Butch Jones family have moved to Rangely from Dinosaur.
n Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Christensen and Marcia returned this week, from a vacation spent in Yellowstone National Park.
n Gary McDonald from the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs arrived Sunday to spend three weeks visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McDonald and sisters, Darlene and Linda.
n A bridal shower honoring Mrs. Kent “Pam” Oldham was held July 17, in the home of Mrs. Ervin Graham, with Diane Martin, Barbara Matrisciano and Linda McLennon as co-hostesses.

n Sept. 1 is still the target date for the Rio Blanco Project on its federal oil shale lease, company officials said Friday. The company earlier announced plans to start construction on a $93 million complex of underground oil shale retorts in September.

n Upon graduating at the top of his Computer Programming Analysis class, Army Private Paul E. Emhovick and his wife, LeaAnne (Rector) Emhovick and son Keenan are being stationed at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
n Matt Pilcher of Rangely, scored a 59 for the second plce win at the second annual Cedar Ridges Junior Golf Tournament Monday.
n Diane Newlin was the winner of a Dr. Pepper 10-speed bicycle from the Bestway store. Harry Peacock was also a winner, he took home a portable TV.
