• Tuesday was Columbus Day. Nobody would have known or suspected it, if our banks hadn’t be closed for the day. This Day business is getting to be a good deal of d— –n farce.

• Irritable children often need Kickapoo Worm Killer. Give Kickapoo Worm Killer a chance and if worms are there this humanly harmless remedy will eliminate the annoying parasites. 25¢ a box.
• Cuss when you must; but you will find that whistling will answer the purpose in most cases.
• Last Wednesday, Oct. 13th, was the 19th anniversary of the attempted robbery of the Bank of Meeker. The graves of the three would-be robbers, in Highland Cemetery, are marked by a pile of boulders—nothing more.

• “We have learned enough from this experiment for the time being and now we want to look at other processes,” officials of the parent firms of Colony Development Co. said in Cleveland in explaining the reason for rearrangement of their oil shale operations.
• This week saw the start of the arrival of the big game hunters bringing their red shirts, Jeeps, money, rifles, groceries and an air of excitement.
• Goofing off certainly doesn’t pay very well, but the hours and working conditions are swell.
• The Rangely football game against Rifle will be played here in Meeker Friday night at 7:30, after Rifle’s field was closed for sanitary reasons.

• Anticipating record numbers in terms of both harvest and hunters, the first big game combination season is over which has left DOW officials scratching their heads as they wonder, “where did all the hunters go?”
• Caught between a rock and a hard spot concerning Two Rivers Guest Ranch restaurant zoning change, the commissioners decided it was best to temporarily “stop the game” by visiting the whole question of commercial development and the desire by many to keep the valley as “natural” as possible. And as we all know, anytime you get those who “want to do something” pitted against those who “like it like it is,” it makes for good discussion.
• The Meeker Fire Department has been very busy this past week including Friday afternoon’s response to the Meeker Conoco filling stating where they had to use foam after a Wisconsin hunter cut the corner too sharp and knocked over a gas pump. Volunteer fire department personnel were called out several times this past week including this run to the elementary school building. Fortunately, the damage to an exterior addition in which chairs were stored was very minimal. Children playing with matches were to blame for the fire.
• Pioneers Hospital picked up two important pieces of equipment—an ultrasound machine and a defibrillator—thanks in large part to donations made by the Freeman Fairfield Trust.

• Eugene McConkie, Pollard Contracting Co. employee, received a broken leg and burns Monday night when he fell from an oil tank at the A.C. McLaughlin A-1 well in the field.
• Carrie Moore, pretty Rangely High School senior, was crowned Homecoming Queen for 1966 Friday night between halves of the Rangely-Steamboat Springs football game. Her attendants were Sharon Hutton and Cheryl Striegel, seniors; Kathy Baker, junior; Zuva Kenney, sophomore; and Colleen Caldwell, freshman.
• Major Putt Wright, son of Mrs. H.M. Searcy of Rangely, has been wounded in Viet Nam, according to word received by his mother last Friday night. He is hospitalized in Tokyo and will not be released for four months.
• Seventy-eight Rangely fifth graders took a field trip to the FAA’s radar dome on the top of Douglas Pass September 27.

• Last week Rangely B.S.A. Troop 150 attended the annual fall Boy Scout Rendezvous in Parachute. The patrol is made up of the following boys: Mike Oliver, Curtis Putney, Chris Rasmussen, Adam Pennell and our newest Scout who we would like to welcome—Larry D. Johansen II.
• The Rangely Panthers were victorious over Plateau Valley this past Friday night. The Panthers beat Plateau Valley with a score of 31-14.
• Matt Crookston led the Panther varsity in an excellent time 19:46, at the Tiger Invitational cross country meet in Grand Junction.
