• Sheriff Ellison placed Merl Lyman and Jim Coltharp under arrest for passing worthless checks.
• Craig has voted to become an incorporated town.
• Mrs. S.M. Miller left on Tuesday’s stage for Denver. She will take the position as assistant in the Meeker Post Office upon her return.

50 years ago
• The Tennessee Transmission Gas Company will drill a wildcat well on Upper Strawberry.
• Marshall Sam Cron helped more than 100 boys and girls during the bicyle clinic held at the grade school.
• At Don’s Market, “Frozen food at prices advertised on TV.” Meat pies, five for $1; TV dinners, 59 cents each; shrimp, 59 cents for 10 oz.

• The Cathedral Bluffs Oil Shale Project worked through a discussion with county officials regarding the funding of a potential rec center for Meeker.
• Dorothy Chappell was honored as “employee of the quarter” at Pioneers Hospital.
• Kimberly Syer and David Muxlow were united in marriage March 3 at Faith Baptist Church. The Rev. Rayburn Cox officiated.
• Critics said Meeker couldn’t support four banks; but not only did the People’s State Bank survive to celebrate their first birthday, they have a brighter future to look forward to..

• Alan Yeager broke the tape at the end of the 880-yard medley relay race at Aurora.

• The Rev. Robert M. Fields held his first services as vicar April 25 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Rangely. Father Fields and his wife, Vanoy, came here from Colorado Springs.
• Kirsty Ann Hill, Scott Alan Tidwell and Roger Dale Hefley were in the Senior Spotlight column from RHS.
• At Bestway: Ground beef, 87 cents per pound; 25 lb. bag flour, $4.29; 2 lb. package of Velveeta, $1.65.
