100 years ago
• The heavy rains of last Saturday were followed by the usual frosts.
• The excavation work for the new State Bank building was finished Thursday forenoon.
• When hanging pictures always hang them with the face to the wall at first, then turn them without unhooking the wire. This leaves the wire twisted up at the hook, and when hung this way the jarring of the house will have no effect on them.

• Willard Simms, general manager of the National Western Stock Show, Denver the past 14 years will be returning to Meeker from where he graduated 39 years ago to present the commencement address. His topic to the 46 members of the Meeker High School Class of 1969 is entitled, “The Old Grey Mare Isn’t What She Used To Be.”

• It was an unfortunate rollover accident, but luckily no one was injured when Jerry Huffman inadvertently ran off County Road 8 this past weekend after observing elk along the roadside.
• A number of noteworthy events have transpired over the past week or so in our community. At the top of the list is the passing of Paul Starbuck. “He was Coach to everyone who knew him.”

• James Ledbetter of Rangely was appointed last week by the county commissioners to serve as the Rangely Airport manager, effective immediately.
• This year’s graduating class at Rangely High School is the largest in the school’s relatively short history. Sixty students, 30 girls and 30 boys, will receive diplomas on Tuesday, May 20.
• The man who doesn’t advertise is like the man who winks in the dark. He knows what he is doing—but nobody else does.

• Two bids were received and opened for the $1 million Rangely airport project.
• The Rangely High School graduation will be held Saturday, May 21, at the Rangely High School gymnasium at 2 p.m. Forty-one seniors will receive diplomas. Co-valedictorians for the Class of 1994 are Milanda Cannon and Stacy Crawford. Matthew Crookston is the salutatorian.
• The 11th Maybe Annual Almost Meeker to Rangely Canoe Race will be held Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 1994. Last year the famous Top Town Cup was not awarded because there were only three entries from Meeker. There has to be five entries from both Meeker and Rangely. Meeker and Rangely are tied at four wins each. Organizer Don Peach expressed concern that Meeker people are getting “overly civilized and no longer interested in crass physical competition like canoe races.”
