The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago

Last Sunday was the 70th birthday of our esteemed fellow citizen, John A. Watson, and the occasion was observed in fine style at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber, Danforth Park. Mrs. Wilber, who is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Watson, got up an elegant birthday dinner. Mr. Watson is a veteran of the Union Army and a pioneer in Meeker.

– Tim Wear, son of Mr. Robert H. Wear, met with a very serious accident at the Two-Bar Ranch, lower Yampa River. His horse fell with him and rolled over. He was picked up unconscious. Doctors were summoned, but after working on him for two days, they could not restore him to consciousness. His father and brother George then brought him here to Meeker. At the hour of going to press, the patient was still unconscious.

– Monday is school election day. Remember that $34,000 in bonds are to be voted on. The polls will not close till 4 o’clock. Show that as taxpayers you are interested. Never in the history of school matters in Meeker was an awakening more needed than at the present time.
