The Meeker Herald —
100 years ago
• Marshal instructed not to allow any camping on the streets. Clerk was instructed to order one-half dozen German silver badges — one labeled town marshal, five labeled Meeker Police.
• Jack Hindman is a very busy man these days digging spuds. Jack said he didn’t lose very many to the cold and snow.
• Owing to a lack of interest and attendance the meeting to discuss the railway situation was postponed. If the people of Meeker and White River valley want a railroad they will have to show more interest in the matter than has been shown up to date.

50 years ago
• Elle Smith Crawford was killed in a head-on collision on the river bridge south of Meeker.
• Lose weight safely with newly released Dex-A-Diet tablets. Only 98 cents at your drug store.
• Bailey Cotten was elected to the National Honorary Society of Veterinary Students at Colorado State University in Fort Collens.
• Mr. And Mrs. Walter Agee completed the Wycliffe Bible Translator’s three-month jungle camp training course.

25 years ago
• A train-car crash near Rifle killed Meeker youth Martin Goldman. Driver Bill Tobin was seriously injured in the accident and taken to St. Mary’s hospital.
• A helicopter from Grand Junction crashed near TeePee Park, 15 miles north of Meeker. All four passengers survived. The engine “just quit” and the helicopter dropped about 200 feet. Deep snowpack is credited with their survival.
• Kristy Hughes and Kevin Nye were crowned Meeker’s prom king and queen, while Tina Morlan and Mike Begg and Erick Brown and Annie Proctor were their attendants.

50 years ago
• Bernard Fredricks was killed and Roger Padilla seriously injured in a car accident thre miles west of Rangely.
• Eight new colors and a kitchen extension costs only pennies a day. To order, just call our business office, Mountain States Telephone.

• Prom royalty for 1974 at RHS: Queen Peggy Hanzon, King Pat Harris, attendants Lisa Brady, Ken Eckerdt, Kathy Caldwell, Ron Rasmussen, Lois Barnhart, Eddie Julius, Pam Powell, Sandy White, Scott Tidwell and Brad Hollenbaugh.
• Rangely Days rodeo royalty was announced following tryouts: Queen Janalee Nickson with first attendant Pat Day and Lonnie Turner.

20 years ago
• RHS sophomore Milton Prater accomplished a feat Saturday that no one has done since Alan Ducey in 1974. That, of course, is to win a state high school championship event in track. Prater won the pole vault event with a 12-3 jump.
• Engagement announcement: MarKaye Carlson to Dean Cox.
• Candy Wall, daughter of Shirley Sinclair, was selected to participate in the Miss American Coed pageant.
