The board of town trustees met in regular monthly session. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Simms. Trustees present: Rooney, Kyser, Purdy and JoHangen. Absent: trustee Thompson.

H.H. Joy appeared before the board and asked the board to extend the water mains to the high school building. On motion the request was laid on the table. n Meeker had its first auto stealing case, when two immature youths tried to “swipe” the Clarence Ford auto. The youths got as far as White River, when overhauled. n Lightning got a large stack of hay on the Sam Wright place last Saturday. A stacker was also partially consumed. n New snow was visible on the high places Sunday morning.

Commencing Monday, Sept. 18 pictures will start at 8 o’clock sharp at the Princess Theater.

A fire believed to have been started by a cigarette burned across a strip of land and caught a stack of native hay bales on fire at the Halpen ranch. Flames consumed approximately 3-1/2 tons of hay.

Meeker High School’s 1966 football season is coached by Ed Duffy, Paul Starbuck and Bob Tucker. Team members include: Doug Williams, Mike Nieslanik, Ron Taussig, Mike Sullivan, Bruce Dorrell, Jim Cook, Rod Crawford, Chuck Bewley, Theon Strickland, Joe Merriam, Roger Clare, Jerry Oldland, Ran Anderson, Mike Brubaker, Dick Watt, Francis McKee, Jim McKean, Les Crook, Mike Lugenbeel, Phil Jensen, Gary Stewart, Ted Stewart, Steve Harp, Charlie Talkington, John Merriam, Don Merriam, Doug Moody, Roger Weir, John Schrepfer and Larry Talkington.

The Front Range isn’t the only area of the state having trouble with mountain lions close to populated areas as Meeker residents have turned in several reports this past year. Most of the reports come from Wall Street toward Ninth Street, along Pine and Cedar streets.

Eight-year-old Allan Larson was involved in a car/bicycle accident that sent him to the hospital. His injuries were not of an extremely severe nature.

The Meeker Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star installed new officers.

Rangely Times — 50 years ago

Rangely’s Main Street will be resurfaced this month. Commissioner Hugh Caldwell told Mayor B.F. Yaeger today.

The Rangely Panthers held on grimly to a 12-7 lead to stop the determined Grand Junction Central Warriors and come up with a victory here Friday night in the opening contest of the football season.

The Colorado Welcome Center at Dinosaur celebrated its first anniversary on Sept. 6. n An overlay of State Highway 64 from the Town Limits to Colorado Well had received criticism from County and Town officials because it was not considered adequate.

CNCC is pleased to announce that full-time enrollment is up 14.5 percent from last fall. We have enrolled 376 full-time students for fall semester 1991.
