- Tuesday morning marked the commencement of construction of Rio Blanco County’s new court house.
- Much to the surprise of local people a carload of Army officers arrived in Meeker and announced that the government was planning to establish a CCC camp adjacent to Meeker, the purpose of the camp being to carry out a program of rodent control in this section.
- Mr. Harlan Coulter, manager of our local picture house, has decided to start running matinee picture shows on Saturday afternoons of each week.
- Miss Lemere, teacher on Piceance the past term, writes the Herald that Dale and Dean Burke, twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burke, had a perfect attendance record at that school the past year.

- Bob Amick will be the second boy this year to qualify for scouting’s highest award, the Eagle scout badge.
- Kip Irwin broke the record in the shot put and football throw in the junior field day Sunday afternoon.
- The friends of Miss Lula Anderson and Mr. Ralph Lyttle were surprised Monday morning to hear that they were married Sunday evening by Rev. Nelson. Everybody expected that it was coming but not until school was out. The young couple slipped off to Craig where Ralph has secured a good job.

- If you’re like thousands of other people who enjoy watching funny home videos, be sure to tune in to Channel 9 tonight for “Colorado’s Funniest Home Videos.” The show is expected to include a short segment of Tyrell and Coley Turner bull riding.
- Carol Lynn Whiteman and Brian Nottingham were selected by their teachers to have their names added to the Quigg Newton plaque.
- Cindy Johnson, 15, will represent the community as the Range Call Rodeo Queen this year.
- “Officer Friendly” aka Phil Stubblefield, visited the Meeker Elementary School to talk about safe bike riding.

- Ten RHS seniors have received scholarships for their scholastic records and abilities.
- Sigrid Hilkey, valedictorian, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hilkey. She is the treasurer of the senior class, was junior prom queen last year and senior homecoming queen this year. Glenda Cary, salutatorian, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cary. She has been a member of the Pep Club for four years, and is a cheerleader.
- The announcement by Lembke Construction that 50 employees will be used on the junior high construction project starting next week makes us wonder where they’ll be housed.

- William “Bill” Hayes will be the speaker for the RHS Class of 1980 commencement ceremony.
- Bryan Roberts, Tim Collins, Brian Mitchem and John Lallar qualified their 880 relay team for state competition.
- Gelean Nickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Nickson, qualified for the state finals in breakaway roping.

- After a six month search, Rio Blanco County has finally filled the position of budget director. Tom Judd is the new director.
- Forty-seven seniors will graduate from Rangely High School Saturday, May 19. The valedictorian address will be given by Cindy Conkle. Andrew Crookston will give the salutatorian address.
- High temperature May 13, 1990 was 70 with a low of 40.
- Karen Bosch was recently notified that she is being honored by Channel 4 of Denver as one of the outstanding high school graduates in Colorado.
