Destination Imagination team places first at state

MEEKER | Four teams traveled to Denver for the State Destination Imagination Tournament the weekend of April 17. At the state level, they were competing against approximately 27 teams in each challenge from different regions across the state.
Meeker’s youngest team of Cole Rogers, Zach Chism, Addie Joy, Makenna Burke and Elijah Deming, coached by Margie Joy and Jason Chism, used a robot to paint a picture in their DI-Bot challenge. The Mighty Tigers, Kenzie Turner, Gracie Bradfield, Lila Klinglesmith, Charlie Day, Kale Burke, and Pake Burke, managed by Marnell Bradfield and Travis Day, built a crane that delivered objects to targets across a 6-foot wall. They had a slight crane malfunction, but placed seventh in the Direct DIposit challenge. D.N.D. consists of Julia Eskelson, Kendra Nelson, Keyla Trujillo, Braydin Henderson, Reese Pertile, with team managers Kristen Eskelson and Tim Nelson. They placed sixth in the You’re Gonna Flip challenge with their alien puppet. 7 Newz at 4, which includes Casey Turner, Sheridan Harvey, Lori Ann Klinglesmith, Cody Nielsen, Delenn Mobley, Madeline Amack, Meghan Smith, with team managers Kellie Turner and Jackie Klinglesmith, placed first in the Breaking DI News challenge. Their structure of newspaper and glue weighed 70 grams and held an astonishing 745 pounds before the judges crushed it! With their first-place finish, they qualified to go to the Global Destination Imagination Tournament in Knoxville, Tenn., the end of May. They are excited to meet and compete against approximately 80 teams from around the world.
