DI teams compete at state

MEEKER I The Meeker Destination Imagination teams competed in the state contest this weekend in Denver. All participants did a great job, and certainly learned a great deal from the experience. The fifth-grade team with team managers Travis Day and Marnell Bradfield led the team of Gracie Bradfield, Kenzie Turner, Charlie Day, Kassie and Krissie Luce, and Kale and Pake Burke. Calling themselves The Four Yellow Roses and Three Handsome Weeds, the team did a performance to mark the 100th anniversary of the Titanic. One judge was brought to tears by their performance and the team finished fifth in the “assembly required challenge.”
The fourth-grade team (self-named The Six Blue Lagoon Fingers), consisting of Addie Joy, Cole Rogers, Colby Franklin and Tevin Pelloni participated in the “coming attractions challenge” with a movie trailer and a performance about a plane crash with their own original soundtrack. Team managers Margie Joy and Shelly Rogers were pleased with their team’s effort throughout the year.
Zach Clatterbaugh and Shana Holliday led a team of third-graders to a sixth place finish in the “hold it” structure challenge. They performed a skit about Mother Nature defeating the Tooth Fairy with a little help from friends. Team “Snack Attacks” with members Lane Anderson, Colby Clatterbaugh, Mason Holliday, Sophia Geodert and Braydon Garcia did an outstanding job.
The fourth and final team to qualify from Meeker was primarily a second-grade team. “Six Hard Hats and Their Tool Box,” consisting of Kelton Turner, Colton Nielsen, Connor Blunt, Hadley Franklin, Aspen Merrifield and Samantha Copeland finished tenth in their “hold it” structure challenge. They also received the Renaissance Award in the elementary division for the original engineering of their props. Overall, the teams enjoyed a fun-filled day on Auraria Campus, finishing their year with a dance and awards ceremony that Saturday evening.
