Dinner theater in Meeker Feb. 23

MEEKER I The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council (MACC) in cooperation with the ERBM Recreation and Park District will present a dinner theatre production based on Aesop’s Fables on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Fairfield Center.
This hilarious production stars local community actors and high school drama club members who have been rehearsing and preparing for the show since December. Actors are Jason Hightower, Caleb Dodds, McKenna Kummer, Mariah Jensen, Stephany Joos, Katherine Eliasen, Michelle Smith, Kaylene Weinholdt, Faye Peterson and Ohana Mataia. Fables to be presented include “The Fox and the Crow,” “The Box and the Grape,” “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “The Wind and the Sun” and “The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.” Interactive audience participation will be featured and is always great fun.
Tickets are $20 per person or $30 per couple. Tickets must be purchased in advance not later than Sat., Feb. 16 at the Meeker Recreation Center in order to give the caterer a head count. No tickets will be available at the door. For more information, contact the Recreation Center at 970-878-3403.
“Paint the Wall” downtown mural competition
MACC is seeking design proposals for the “Paint the Wall” artist’s mural competition to be displayed on the east wall of Shepherd’s Office Outfitters. Interested artists may contact Jeanette and Chad Shepherd for application and proposal information.
The performing and fine arts enrichment seminars
MACC, in cooperation with Colorado Mesa University (CMU) theatre arts department and with Meeker High School, will present a series of performing and fine arts enrichment seminars that will be offered to local school students and to community members interested in improving their skills and knowledge about theatre and drama. CMU theatre arts department will provide professional faculty members for three-hour Saturday afternoon seminars to be held at Meeker High School. The first seminar will explore musical productions and vocal music techniques. Drama club members from Meeker and Rangely High Schools have been invited to participate as have community members and others who are interested. Seminars will be “hands-on” interactive workshops with CMU theatre arts faculty members. Future seminars are planned to include method acting, directing, technical theatre, stage combatives training, and other topics in 2013. Abraham Lincoln reenactment production
An Abraham Lincoln reenactment production is tentatively scheduled for mid-March with more details to be announced soon. It is planned to present one community show and two school shows at the Meeker High School auditorium. Funding for the event has been secured through grants for honorarium and production costs.
Use of the old elementary school as a community performing and fine arts, and as a volunteer organization center has been discussed and further discussions with community members, organizations and government leaders will be pursued to explore feasibility and benefits.
Recognizing the need for funding to provide performing and fine arts services and venues for the community, MACC will explore grant funding opportunities which could facilitate building and renovation for performing and fine arts venues that would support these needs. Any such pursuits will clearly require broad based support of community members, local government, special districts, businesses, corporations and philanthropic organizations
MACC continues to seek new youth and adult membership, and business/corporate sponsor membership and invites community members to join meetings and activities.
