RBC | Two drivers were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction after being extricated from their vehicles following a near head-on collision Tuesday on County Road 5.
Both drivers sustained serious injuries.
Hector Islas-Ascencio, 36, of Las Vegas, was driving a semi tractor-trailer that collided with a dump truck driven by Martin Caro-Villalobos, 39, of Silt.
After the collision, the semi trailer continued on and collided with a trailer being towed by Edward Reynolds, 42, of Glenwood Springs, who was uninjured in the crash.
Road conditions at the time of the accident were snow-packed and icy, and the speed at which Islas-Ascencio was driving was considered the primary cause of the crash.
The accident is being investigated by the Colorado State Patrol, with assistance from the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Meeker Fire and Rescue and Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge Department.
