MEEKER I Colorado State Patrol, in conjunction with Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and Meeker Police Department, will conduct a DUI checkpoint and saturation patrols Friday in the Meeker area.
The Colorado State Patrol, Steamboat Springs Police and the U.S. Forest Service conducted a DUI checkpoint in Steamboat Springs on May 23, which was a success with 204 vehicles contacted and with only one DUID arrest (driving under the influence of drugs).
One DUI arrest was made during the saturation patrols in the Steamboat Springs area.
Colorado State Patrol, with the assistance of Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and Craig Police, conducted a DUI checkpoint June 20 in Craig, with 125 vehicles contacted.
The checkpoint resulted in one DUI arrest. Saturation patrols conducted in the Craig area during the checkpoint did not result in any arrests.
Troopers conducted saturation patrols after the checkpoint resulting in one additional DUI arrest, three summonses were issued for underage drinking and one summons was issued for obstructing a police officer.
CSP Troop 4B covers Rio Blanco, Moffat, Routt, Grand and Jackson counties.
Troop 4B has seen an increase in pro-active DUI/DUID arrests for the period of Jan. 1-May 31, compared to the same time in 2008, and a reduction of DUI/DUID crashes.
In the same periods, Troop 4B had six DUI-related injury or fatal crashes in 2008, compared to four in 2009. However, there was one DUI fatal crash in that period in 2008, and there have been two DUI fatal crashes in 2009, both of which occurred in northern Moffat County.
