RBC — Rio Blanco County Clerk Nancy Amick, for one, will be glad when the election is over.
“This has been a difficult election due to the lengthy ballot, more than double the amount of mail-in applications and registrations, and new state requirements and conditions,” Amick said. “Overall, it has taken much more work, but has progressed smoothly. I am certainly looking forward to putting this election behind us.”
Early voting is running high, Amick said.
“As of Monday, we already have 44 percent of our active electors voting early or applying for mail-in ballots,” she said.
Amick reminded voters who applied for a mail-in ballot to return it in a timely manner.
“Preferably early, either in person or by mail,” she said. “If mailed, allow adequate mailing time. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.”
The last day to apply for a mail-in ballot to be mailed was Tuesday.
“A voter’s mail-in option (now) is to pick up a ballot in person at the county clerk’s office,” Amick said, adding, “If a voter has applied for a mail-in ballot and not received it, please contact our office immediately.”
There is early voting available in both Meeker and Rangely.
“Voters can continue to vote early at the Fairfield Center in Meeker or the Western Annex in Rangely, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through Friday of this week,” Amick said.
Because of the lengthy ballot, voters should allow more time, Amick said.
“Voters who choose to go to the polls on Election Day would be wise to prepare ahead of time by reviewing a sample ballot to determine their selections and checking their registration information,” she said. “We strongly advise voters to go early in the day on Election Day to avoid any lines caused by the lengthy ballot.”
A sample ballot for the county is posted on the Clerk and Recorder page of the county Web site at www.co.rio-blanco.co.us, along with a link to voter information at www.govotecolorado.com.
Amick expects to have local results by sometime late Tuesday night.
“I am hopeful that unofficial results can be posted (on the county Web site) by 10 p.m.,” she said.
