RANGELY I For the third year in a row and a fourth time overall, Clark Edwards has won the Men’s Club Championship at Cedar Ridges Golf Course in Rangely.
Thirty-five golfers competed in three flights, with a gross and net champion in each flight.
“Saturday was dry and windy, but the course was set up for good scores,” course golf manager Chris Hejl said. “The wind died down Sunday, but the course setup was as difficult as it’s been all year, with tough pins and fast greens. Only a handful of players improved from Saturday to Sunday.”
Edwards shot a 73 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday for a total gross score of 148.
“The course was in great shape,” Edwards said. “I think Robby (Elam) had a fun time setting those pins on Sunday; there were some tough ones.”
Justin Halcomb and Terry Lancaster tied at 142 for the best net score in the championship flight, and playoffs were needed to determine the net champion in the first and second flights.
Jason Cox had the best gross score (181) in the first flight whereas Caleb Templeton beat James Maybury in a playoff for the best net score.
Jessy Powell had the best gross score (196) in the second flight, where Jason Plummer beat Travis LeBleu in a playoff for the best net score.
According to Hejl, the Cedar Ridges Men’s Club will wrap up league play this week and the Ladies’ Club Championship will be played on Aug. 30.
The Dotson Memorial Scramble will be played Sept. 5.
