Usually when the weather warms up and the snow clears at lower altitudes, the elk head toward higher terrain. This herd of elk, which broke away minutes earlier from a combined total of roughly 40 elk, apparently didn’t read the news as they were seen about 100 yards south of County Road 8 on Friday, only about 12 miles east of Meeker.
