RANGELY I This spring the Western Rio Blanco Recreation Center is planning on remodeling the Elks Park in Rangely. A bond passed in 2008 put into place the remodeling of the Recreation Center, as well as a new playground at Elks Park and improvements at the Columbine Golf Course. The improvements have been completed with the money for the Elks Park improvement worked into the district’s budget, with the staff doing the bulk of the work.
Tim Weber, director of the WRBM Rec. District said the improvements in the recreation center and Rangely parks are due to “very supportive board members that want to be good stewards of the people’s money.”
Weber also stated, the board members that worked toward the improvements need to be acknowledged. Current board members are Linda Gordon, Joyce Key, Dennis Medina, George Fortunato and Janet Mackey. Also involved were past board members, Frank Hewitt, Wallace Salter, Bill Mitchem and Kandice Torno.
The current pavilions in the park were built in 1984-1985 and are in disrepair. The Rec. District plans to replace the main pavilion that is located by the parking lot, with a new 30′ x 60′ pavilion and new bathrooms. Also to be replaced is the large pavilion in the middle of the park. In addition, a new bathroom and pavilion will be built close to the playground. The improvements will also make the park handicap accessible.
The Kevin Poole Memorial Complex will also get a facelift. New lighting, new scoreboards, new dugouts and fence replacement are just some of the improvements Rangely can look forward to in 2011.
