ROUTT COUNTY — Emergency river bank repairs along U.S. 40 near Steamboat Springs started Friday, May 30. The work was originally scheduled to wrap up June 3 but it will now take Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) maintenance crews until at least Monday, June 9 to complete the work.
Crews are installing riprap to help prevent further bank erosion due to the high waters of the Yampa River. Once the bank work is complete, crews will need to fill and compact the damaged roadway shoulder, fix the barrier and then pave.
During the project, the eastbound lane of U.S. 40 will be closed so motorists can expect single-lane alternating traffic each day between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
