MEEKER I A couple of events are on slate for Friday and next week, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation District in the next 10 days, and both are open to the public.
On Friday is the Hoops for Charity 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Teams of three or four players are invited to join in the fourth annual event.
Participants will receive a T-shirt, and a portion of the tournament proceeds will be donated to each division winner’s charity of choice.
The tournament is for grades three and up with divisions set for males and females in each of the divisions, set for grades three and four; grades five and six; grades seven and eight; and grades nine through 12; and a division for adults.
There will also be coed divisions for families and adults.
The event will take place at the Meeker High School gymnasium, starting at 9 a.m. Cost is $30 per team.
Divisions may be combined depending on the number of teams, and each division must have at least three teams.
Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge
The fifth annual Denver Nuggets Skills Challenge will be held at the Meeker Elementary School gymnasium on Jan. 9.
During this basketball competition, skills in dribbling, passing and shooting will be tested.
Boys and girls from age 7 to 14 will be able to compete in the challenge while boys and girls who are 5 and 6 years old will be playing for fun.
The event will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m., and there is no cost to take part.
The deadline for registration is Jan. 9 by 5:15 p.m.
Winners of the 7- to 14-year-old challenge have a chance to advance to the Sectional Competition in February.
All participants are urged to wear comfortable athletic clothing and bring a bottle of water.
