MEEKER I An open house to discuss the development of a trail system at the Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park will take place on Tuesday, June 14 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Meeker Recreation Center. At 6:30 p.m., the regularly scheduled Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan (ERBM) Recreation and Park District board meeting will take place with Norris Design making a formal presentation to the ERBM board.
John Birkey and Elena Scott of Norris Design will be on hand at the open house. They will discuss their initial conceptual plans, site opportunities and constraints as well as to solicit input from the public on their ideas for the space. Other display material will also be available to be discussed. Norris Design, a landscape architect firm, is well versed in the planning of park and recreation projects such as this from the initial renderings through the final construction phase. Norris Design was selected earlier this year to provide the consultant work on the project.
With a generous donation from the Jensen family in 2006, the ERBM acquired the 57 acre tract known as the Dorcas Jensen Memorial Park. The proposed trail system will be developed primarily for biking and hiking. Motorized uses as well as equestrian uses are not allowed due to Open Space Covenants.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to work with Norris Design and create a trail system that everyone in the area can be proud of. One of the comments we hear the most is the need to have trails in the area. This should provide a great beginning to a trail system and hopefully we can work with other entities to expand the system in the future. We strongly encourage the public to attend this event and let their voices be heard and their thoughts be known on the plans,” stated Kris Arcolesse and Zach Clatterbaugh, district board members.
