Meeker Elementary School (MES) was honored by the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) last week and received a $10,000 check for being selected as a National ESEA Distinguished School. Out of 750 eligible Colorado schools, only two were selected for the award. MES closed the achievement gaps in both English language arts (ELA) and math, from 2018 to 2019, for students eligible for free/reduced meals, minority students, English learners, and students with disabilities. According to MES Principal Kathy Collins, the school will determine how the money is spent. “Teachers and students have some great ideas so far!” Collins said via email.
