RBC I Rio Blanco County Fair Books are ready and available at the CSU Extension Office or throughout Meeker and Rangely.
The fair starts this weekend with the Horse Show on Friday and Saturday. Entries will be taken at the horse show until 8 a.m. for the morning classes and at noon for the afternoon classes. Check out the Fair Book for more details.
On Monday at 9 a.m., the fair actually goes to the dogs. The 4-H youth will exhibit their 4-H dog projects in obedience and showmanship classes. The public is invited to drop by and support the 4-H kids, who have spent many hours training for this contest.
On Tuesday morning is the 4-H Exhibit Day and interview judging takes place. Youths with general projects including model rockets, clothing and cake decorating will be checking in their exhibits from 7 to 8:30 a.m.
On Tuesday evening, plan to join the kids for the big Fashion Revue Show at 7 p.m.
On Wednesday, the youth will bring in their livestock projects to be weighed and ultrasound scanned for meat quality. The ultrasound process helps ensure the highest quality of meat for the Junior Livestock Sale.
The 4-H youth will launch their model rockets at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to see which rocket goes highest and to cheer for your favorite rocket and rocketeer.
Starting at 6:30 p.m. is the second annual Barnyard Olympics. This event is lots of old time picnic fun. Everyone is invited to participate in a watermelon-eating contest, three legged races, and a balloon toss, to name a few of the games, and, of course, prizes will be given. The 4-H Council will also host a lawn dance from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
On Thursday, plan to enter your canned goods, sewing and needlework projects, photography, art and other open class fair exhibits.
Open class and photography exhibits are encouraged to be entered on Wednesday, Aug. 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. Indoor exhibit entries will also be taken the following morning, Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 a.m.
The Rio Blanco County Fair Board encourages everyone to enter exhibits that showcase their talents.
Rio Blanco County is full of talented people, and it is wonderful to see those talents exhibited.
Make sure you pick up a Fair Book and see all the classes that are available including cream pies, cheesecakes, custard pies, milks and cheeses.
Exhibitors may choose to donate their entries to the Baked Goods Sale again this year. Boxes of baked goods and grand champion baked goods will be auctioned off on Aug. 6 at 5:30 p.m just prior to the Junior Livestock Sale.
Proceeds of the Baked Goods Auction will go to the Rio Blanco County Extension Office 4-H Scholarship Fund. The silent auction makes its return to the exhibit halls, where exhibitors are encouraged to enter their work and keep the profits.
Open Livestock classes are a great way to show off your prized hens and roosters, rabbits, goats, wool fleece, dairy and beef cattle, sheep, and even your pig.
There are plenty of fun contests for the whole family to participate in, such as: “Rio Blanco County’s Got Talent,” the Classic Car show, the Pet Rock Contest, the Rabbit Chase, the Little Buckaroo Rodeo, the Sheep Lead, and more.
Grab your Fair Book and start planning all the possibilities. Fair is just around the corner, so call if you have any questions.
Entry tags are here for you to fill out ahead of time or you can fill them out when you get to the fair. Food and vegetable trays are also here for your baked goods and farm fresh veggies.
The fair board looks forward to seeing as many Rio Blanco County residents as possible and their work, so get “ready, set and go.”
See the Fair Book for complete listing of contests and entry information, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the Meeker Extension Office at 878-9490 or the Rangely Extension office at 878-9495.
