MEEKER | Pie bakers came out in full force last Saturday at the Fall Festival. There were 29 pie entries and our judges, Willy Theos, Diane Dunham and Stanley Crawford, had their work cut out for them. The Rio Blanco County 4-H Foundation would like to congratulate and thank all who participated. Amberly Petty baked a pecan pie for Best Overall, Taylor Bicknell made a beautiful bourbon apple pie for Best Fall Festival Pie and Tawny Halandras baked a caramel apple pie to take the Best Fruit honors. Each of these bakers received $100 cash. The $50 pie winners were Caleigh Morlan and Jayden Archuleta with a coconut cream pie to win the Youth category, Prettiest Pie honors went to Barb Meese with a blackberry pie and the Best No Bake entry was Nicky Shriver’s banana coconut cream pie. Even though not all the pies made it through the storm, we had an amazing turnout and sold lots of wonderful treats. Thank you to our sponsors who so generously donated our prize money: Northwest Auto, Meeker Realty, Valley Repair and Towing, Redi Services, H&H LLC, Coal Creek Farms, Bank of the San Juans and Theos Swallow Fork Ranch. The proceeds from this contest will fund 4-H awards given by the 4-H Foundation as well as scholarships and other awards for the upcoming year.
