RBC I The District Attorney for the 14th Judicial District released a statement on Thursday stating that the use of deadly force was justified in the shooting of James Damon on March 9 outside of Dinosaur.
Damon was killed during a confrontation with Colorado Parks and Wildlife Officer Nathan Martinez of Rangely and Moffat County Sheriff’s Deputy Bhrent Shock.
Damon and his wife, Georgie Hand, allegedly attacked the officers, disarming them in the process. Officer Martinez was able to retrieve his gun from Damon, at which time Damon was shot and killed.
Hand is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, menacing, trespass and disarming a peace officer, and she is awaiting her preliminary hearing in Moffat County Court on Aug. 20.
