Three Meeker High School students — incoming sophomore Jenna Walsh and incoming seniors Piper Haney and Aly Ridings — traveled to Nashville, Tenn., to compete in the National Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competition after earning top gold at the state competition in Denver in April. The girls and chaperones Becky Ridings and Viney Bowman traveled to Nashville on July 6. Walsh competed in entrepreneurship by herself and won first place gold out of the entire Western U.S. Haney and Ridings, competing in chapter showcase manual, also won gold medals. The group enjoyed the Grand Ol’ Opry, stayed at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, enjoyed a beach party at Nashville shores and many other activities. The FCCLA focuses on leadership, community service and teaches its members how to properly present themselves in business situations. This is the third year Haney and Ridings have earned top gold at the state competition and gone on to nationals.
