February incidents up 22 percent

RBC — The combined incidents for the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office and the Meeker Police Department significantly increased during February 2009, with a 22 percent increase in activity compared to February 2008.
Total incidents received through the communications center increased to 1,002 in February 2009, up from 821 in February 2008. The number of calls for service decreased for the sheriff’s office with 155 incidents in February 2009, down from 241 in February 2008. The number of traffic stops increased significantly from 321 in February 2008 to 604 in February 2009 for the sheriff’s office.
The Meeker P.D. responded to 174 calls for service during February 2009, up from 140 in February 2008. Traffic stops for the Meeker P.D. decreased with 47 stops in February 2009, down from 85 stops in February 2008.
Activity for both agencies includes these most notable classifications: 651 traffic stops; 39 VIN inspections; 28 motorist assists; 23 animal calls; 20 traffic arrests; 17 accidents with property damage; 15 traffic complaints; 14 jail transports; 12 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; 12 juvenile problems; 10 citizen assists; 10 disturbances; 10 thefts; nine civil situations; eight warrant arrests; five criminal mischief cases; five trespass cases; four narcotics cases; three assaults; three fraud cases; two hit and run accidents; two DUI’s; two restraining order violations; one domestic violence case; one harassment case; one liquor/MIP violation; one search and rescue; one sexual assault and one suicide.
The Rio Blanco County Detention Center continued to operate above maximum capacity during February 2009 housing an average daily inmate population of 25.21 inmates, with 20 males and 5.21 females, up from an average daily inmate population of 23.32 inmates in January 2009. During February 2009, a daily average of 1.82 male inmates were housed in facilities outside of Rio Blanco County, at a cost of $1,400 for the month.
The number of bookings decreased in February 2009 with 69 people processed in the detention center, down from 101 bookings in January 2009. Of the 69 people processed 59 were jailed and 10 were booked and released. The number of meals served by the detention center increased from 1,708 meals served in January 2009 to 1,757 meals served in February 2009.
