Fellows, Watt defend title

MEEKER I One of the challenges of the annual two-man golf scramble at the Meeker Golf Course is teams have to play 27 holes but defending champs Matt Fellows and J.C. Watt saved their their best round for the last nine holes and won the title again this year.
Former champions Lex Collins and Erik Brown set the pace with a six-under par 28 after the first nine holes played, three shots ahead of he eventual champions and the best nine-hole score of the day. Collins and Brown tied for the second best gross score with Chad Luce and Bill deVergie, who trailed the leaders by six shots after the first nine.
Fellows and Watt added two strokes on the second nine but shot a five-under par 29 on the final nine to win by two shots.
“I have a good partner, Matt played well,” Watt said of his partner, both have won club championships.
Watt said he was also happy for how Rod Crawford and Irven Griffin played.
Crawford and Griffin only counted 31 shots on the first nine but shot even par (68) on the final 18 holes to finish with the best (80) net score. Ted Stewart and George Back had the second best net score, two shots more than the winners.
Randy Hall and Earl Cherry tied with Greg Ackerman and George Kuck for the third best net score at 83.
The Bob Tucker Memorial will be played Saturday, May 19.
