MEEKER I The Meeker Youth Basketball boys’ season is coming to an end with the last games scheduled this week. The program was a huge success this year with approximately 21 participants in the fifth- and sixth-grade division and 19 in the third- and fourth-grade division.
The younger players concluded their season Saturday. Meeker had two teams in the division, one coached by Paulette Hanks and Zach Clatterbaugh and the other coached by Matty Garr. Both teams enjoyed seasons full of improvement, teamwork and great experience. They were in a league with teams from Debeque, New Castle, Rifle, Silt and Parachute, each team hosting games on the weekends. The fifth- and sixth-grade division was set up the same way but will finish their season with a tournament this weekend.
Meeker had two teams in the older division as well, coached by Jim Hanks and Dr. Chris Williams. All the teams will be given an end of the year banquet to celebrate their season, which emphasized sportsmanship and team play. Thank you to all the volunteers who coached, parents who traveled, and Meeker Recreation Center employees who made the season run smoothly.
