The summer heat wave is here, prompting many warm water species to take an array of baits offered at lower elevation lakes and reservoirs throughout the state. Colorado’s rivers and high mountain lakes are becoming good choices for anglers who want to beat the heat. After spending a day fishing a high mountain lake north of Boulder, I can tell you that the trout are rising to the surface for the latest hatches. Look for brook, rainbow and brown trout in many of the high mountain lakes. Hiking to the lakes will be part of the adventure, but well worth it. The water flow for many of the rivers and streams throughout the state are beginning to slow and fishing will improve throughout the month.
