Foot clinic set for May 27 in Meeker

MEEKER — Pioneers Medical Center Home Health will be offering its monthly foot clinic on Tuesday, May 27 from 10-11 a.m. at 200 Main St. (Fairfield Center next to Chuckwagon Room). A registered nurse and a certified nurse assistant will trim toenails, assess circulation, give skin care and check blood pressures. Persons found to have circulatory or foot problems will be referred to a physician. Call (970) 878-9265 to schedule an appointment.

Rangely fishing derby set for June 7
RANGELY — The Rio Blanco Water Conservancy District, Rio Blanco Metropolitan Parks and Recreation District and Colorado Division of Wildlife, in conjunction with the State of Colorado Free Fishing Weekend, have scheduled the annual fishing derby for Saturday, June 7.
Registration begins at 8 a.m.. at the Kenney Reservoir Marina, and the fishing derby runs from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Prizes and awards will be handed out between 10:30-11 a.m.
Fishing is an activity that can be enjoyed by everyone. Bring your friends, family, fishing poles and come join us on Saturday for lots of fun. For more information, call the Water Conservancy District office at (970) 675-5055.

Baccalaureate set for Friday at MHS
MEEKER — Baccalaureate for the Meeker High School Class of 2008 is Friday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Meeker High School auditorium. The public is invited to attend.

“Home of” 411
MEEKER — Long-time Meeker resident Ivo E. Shults is this week’s “home of” honoree. Ivo was born in York, Neb. May 30, 1909. He celebrates his 99th birthday next week.
In his youth, Ivo attended country schools around the Grand Valley. He was graduated from Rifle High School in 1927 and moved to Meeker shortly thereafter.
Ivo married his wife, the former Winnie Burke, in 1937 in Glenwood Springs.
Ivo and Winnie bought their ranch in Powell Park in 1938. His son Lonnie currently operates the ranch.
The Shults’ have two children: son Lonnie and wife Peggy and daughter Lo Ann Klinglesmith and husband Lowell, all of Meeker.
Ivo loved riding horses, his dogs and fishing the White River.
Ivo also served as county commissioner and was a prominent member of the Rio Blanco Cattlemen’s Association as well as Powell Park and Meeker school boards.
Ivo has been busy all his life, has a great sense of humor and loves good music.

Pickup cemetery decorations June 1
MEEKER — The Meeker Cemetery District asks that all decorations placed on graves for Memorial Day must be picked up from the graves by 5 p.m. June 1.
Anything remaining on June 2 will be stored in the sheds until June 13. At that time all decorations left will be d
