RANGELY — Another arrest was made last weekend in an ongoing drug case.
John Parks, 46, of Olympia, Wash., a former Rangely resident, was arrested around 6:30 Saturday night in a secluded area outside town, near the Green River Bridge, off County Road 46.
Parks, who is being held in the Rio Blanco County Detention Center, is charged with retaliation against a witness (a Class 3 felony) and menacing (a Class 3 misdemeanor).
“He (Parks) shows up at the house of someone he believes was involved in undercover activity and threatened to kill him,” said Sgt. Roy Kinney, Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s investigator. “He wanted him to do specific things, like meet him in a semi-secluded area. If he didn’t, of course, there was a death threat.”
Kinney said there was a connection between Parks and Luciano Madrid, 45, who was arrested April 21 in Rangely for selling methamphetamine.
“As far as we can tell, yeah, we can connect them,” Kinney said. “This is branching out all over the place.”
According to court records, Parks has a criminal history, including crimes of violence and narcotics distribution. No weapons were found in Park’s possession, Kinney said, at the time of the arrest.
