But it is over.
The skies are clear. Our future now depends on us living with the decisions we made in this past election.
The majority of voters will have their candidates in office, so they will have no one to blame but themselves for what happens. The voters who came up short in their choices must realize they were in the minority, but they should feel good because they voted.
As the saying goes, “That’s what makes a horse race.”
But for those who didn’t vote? You are irrelevant. Many of you are the type who sit around and complain about the current local, county, state and federal government officials because they just don’t see the world the same way as you and your rose-colored glasses.
You know what? No one cares what you think. You ARE irrelevant.
Whether your candidate won or lost, a big thanks goes out to all of you who cared enough to turn in your ballots. That IS what makes America great.
Thank God for those who do care. That is what separates us from a lot of countries where citizens either can’t vote or where a citizen’s vote really doesn’t count.
I must say that getting up on Wednesday morning to come to work and watching network television while I fixed breakfast was like waking up in an entirely new and sunny world.
For about 90 minutes I watched the news. And while, of course, the news was about the election, I didn’t see one single election commercial. I didn’t see one single negative, name-calling, lying or fact-bending advertisement on TV.
I saw ads for men’s erectile dysfunction issues, women’s hygiene products, sugar-laden cereals and even the idiots on the Sonic Drive-In commercials. But it didn’t matter. Those ads were actually refreshing following about three solid months of being subject to the election commercials.
There were no more political advertisements on the tube and it didn’t upset my stomach like some of those political garbage productions had done.
It seemed like Christmas about seven weeks early, and now I will have something else to be grateful for on Thanksgiving.
Yippee! The election is over!
While the Denver Broncos had a temporary setback against a tough New England Patriots team, the Meeker Cowboys keep trudging along, knocking off opponents one after another and advancing closer and closer to the state championships, which, I understand, are about two more victories away.
This Saturday, for the second week in a row, a team from the eastern side of the state will have to make its way to Meeker, and that can make for a tired football squad.
I don’t envy Rye as it makes the cross-state trek, but then again, I want Meeker to continue on its winning ways.
Congratulations Cowboys! Keep up the good work.

Well, we have now had our first snow of the winter, and by virtue of it falling on Nov. 3, much of the lower elevations in Rio Blanco County tied an unbeatable landmark, like Denver, of not having any snowfall during October.
We had a bit of rain and we have had some snow in the higher reaches of Rio Blanco County, but there was no measurable snow in downtown Meeker during the month, and that hasn’t happened very many times.
I am hoping that Poor Richard is not correct in his winter prognostication, which calls for one of the coldest and snowiest winters in many years.
The snow is a good thing; the cold is not particularly a good thing, but I guess hoping and wishing isn’t going to really affect what is going to happen.
We can certainly appreciate the colors of the fall in Rio Blanco County and we can certainly look back on October as a most-pleasant, sunny, mostly dry and warmer-than-normal month.
But look out now. Winter had started and we can only guess what the next five or six months will bring.
Finally, congratulations to those who won in the election on Tuesday. There are no candidates who lost in Rio Blanco County as every candidate was an unopposed Republican.
But those candidates for governor and U.S. Senate certainly campaigned hard, if anything can come of the negativism.
And those pushing the local school tax mill levy override campaigned quite diligently while those pushing the broadband ballot issue fought what should have a winning proposition.
Regardless of any of the outcomes, those voters who cast their ballots and who took part in the election process are to congratulated for their involvement.
Go Cowboys; win again. Go Broncos; bounce back strong against the winless Raiders!
