Fund raising presentation at MVB

Lisa Brown, fundraising professional, will present the latest and best methods in raising money for nonprofit organizations in small communities. The Meeker Chamber of Commerce and Northwest Colorado Rural Philanthropy Days have joined forces to bring Lisa Brown to the Meeker Mountain Valley Bank on April 14 from 1-3 p.m.
The workshop, titled “Fund Development Planning,” will define and delineate the core functions necessary for an effective development program and how to apply them in a small organization. The session focuses on the basics of any development program regardless of size and how to prioritize time to find the best funding for your situation. Register online at www.northwestrpd.org by clicking on “our programs.”
“Participants will leave prepared to raise money for your organization with a draft development plan, identified prospects and the knowledge and confidence to ask the right people to support their organizations’ work.”
Lisa Brown, a third generation native of Routt County, is the development director and acting CEO for the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association. She is responsible for the grant and individual revenue portion of a nearly $8 million annual budget. Previously, Lisa was the program manager for the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.
In addition to her development and program-related responsibilities, she was elected to the Steamboat Springs School District RE-2 Board in 2007, was appointed to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Tony Grampsas Youth Services Board, has been a member of the Routt County and city of Steamboat Springs Human Resource Allocation Committee and is a founding member and participant of Impact100, a Routt County philanthropic group.
“The information provided in this presentation is not to be missed,” commented Summer Laws, regional manager of Northwest Colorado Rural Philanthropy Days and former executive director of a small nonprofit in Routt and Moffat counties, “from new to longtime staff and volunteers of non-profits there will be something to learn. So often people who support community organizations are too busy to sit down and put a good fundraising plan into place. This workshop will provide the skills and some of the time to do that.”
Northwest Colorado Rural Philanthropy Days is a collaborative program with the Yampa Valley Community Foundation and Community Resource Center that builds excellence among the nonprofit and social service, bringing more financial support and professional development opportunities to community, arts, and environmental organizations in our region of northwest Colorado (Grand, Jackson, Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt counties.)
Services include quarterly nonprofit development workshops, networking opportunities and an event every four years that brings together representatives from Denver and Colorado Springs foundations and nonprofit and government leaders from our region for three days of training and fundraising opportunities. This event allows grant seekers from our region to build partnerships with foundations based on the front range of Colorado. Our last event was held in September 2009 in Steamboat Springs. The next event will be in 2013; site yet to be determined.
